Biography

Hi, my name is Benjamin Callaghan. As the founder and owner of Champion Fencing Services, I would like to welcome you to our website and give you a brief insight into my personal career history and how the creation of CFS came about.

I was born on the South Coast in the small town of Nowra and completed my schooling in Sydney. Moving back and forth between Nowra and Sydney, my working history consists of a vast variety of professions and trades. As a young boy I worked in my fathers automotive engineering workshop before I started out in the work force as a trolley boy at the age of 14 and moved on to commencing a building apprenticeship at the age of 17. I then moved on to try different roles such as a security guard working for Australian Event Protection and various licenced premises. A glass door and window manufacturer as a glazier. A warehouse manager in advertising poster distribution and pharmaceutical orthopedic implants.

I found myself longing for more of a challenge and so I moved on to become an Industrial Rope Access Technician, abseiling hi-rise buildings. During this occupation I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which resulted in a two year battle undergoing chemotherapy as part of a clinical trial.

I managed to keep working as a rope tech between bouts of treatment and when successfully achieving remission, I decided to move to Perth. As a bit of an adrenalin junkie, I found abseiling hi-rise buildings was definitely my calling and so I launched the company Dangerzone Rope Access PTY LTD. After 3 years of building and operating Dangerzone I found myself in a debilitated state with extreme back pain due to after-effects of the chemotherapy which, unbeknownst to me at the time, had given me brittle bones and I had no choice but to shut down the company and move back to the east coast.

After about 6 months my health, quite suddenly, improved immensely and I was able to enter the work force once again. Looking for any type of employment I was offered a job installing fences. I only planned to take on this role as an interim. Although, like all other roles I have taken on, I gave it my all and I found that I enjoyed the work and was very good at it. Within two weeks I was offered a more permanent position as a team leader, so I decided to commit to the job and see where it would take me.

Living in Nowra, I spent 3 years driving to Sydney daily working as a subcontractor fulfilling contracts for companies such as Assured Fencing, Northern Fencing Specialists, Local Councils, City Rail, Rail Corp and Aus-Grid. This gave me exposure and development of skills in a very wide range of fencing applications. Not only did I find that I could utilise my creative talent -which I enjoy very much- I also saw an opportunity to build my own fencing business.

All of the occupations that I have worked in have given me a multitude of skills which meant that I was able to excel in the fencing industry with an advantage .

After years of experience in constructing high security, commercial and aesthetically pleasing rural and residential fences, I decided to launch Champion Fencing Services to provide a quality fence installation service in Nowra and surrounding areas on the South Coast.

FAQ's

Some questions that you might have in mind.

Qns. Should I put a deposit down before my fence is installed?

Ans: No, 90% of residential fences do not require a deposit before installation. The only exceptions are very large commercial fences and occasional residential fences needing custom fabricated materials to be ordered to complete the job.

Qns. How long does a fence last?

Ans: Wood fences in Florida last between 10 & 15 years. Because wood is a natural material, the best a wood fence looks will be the day it is put up. Florida’s sun is hard on wood causing it to fade very quickly after installation.

Vinyl fences last as long as you stay in your house. The only enemy to vinyl is mother natures storms. There is no warranty that will cover an Act of God.

Qns Does it matter who installs my fence?

Ans: You should always choose an installer that has properly general liability and workers compensation insurance. If they cannot provide proof of insurance or wavier from the state, then you should beware of hiring them.

Qns Can we trust you?

Ans: At Champion., we can honestly say that we care more about your fence than you do. We want to meet with you and communicate with you from setting up the estimate appointment, to meeting you to install your fence, walking the fence line once the job is complete to take care of any issues that you may find or answer your questions about why we did what we did, and to resolve any issues that you may have right then. Make sure that whoever you choose to install your fence truly cares about your project.

Qns How do I know if they are any good?

Ans: Research! Do your research. Look around your neighborhood, ask your neighbors, use the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, and internet searches, to name a few.
